AME Golf & Brew Lounge has closed a year after opening in Overland Park’s Oak Park Mall.
But another tenant will soon take its place.
District Eat & Play, a family entertainment center, plans a July 15 opening in the mall at 95th Street and Quivira Road.
It will have arcade games, laser tag, a karaoke room, an escape room, mini golf, pool tables and darts. It also will have birthday packages, and host corporate events.
Matt Ilbak opened the first District Eat & Play in 2018 in Oviedo, Florida, near Orlando.
His brother, Adam, then put one in Salina, Kansas, in 2020. He added the Independence Center location in 2023.
Now Adam Ilbak, who is based in Los Angeles, California, plans 20 more locations within the next five years. One in the works for Chicago is scheduled to open later this year.
“People go to the malls for more than food and shopping. They want entertainment,” he said.
AME Golf & Brew Lounge took over the former Microsoft Store space. It had an indoor patio along the front with big screen TVs, and golf simulators inside. Customers could order drinks at the bar and snack on ballpark food.
Founder Ryan Marshall also operated another Oak Park Mall store, AME Sports, a sports merchandise, autograph collectibles and memorabilia store. It recently closed.
Marshall couldn’t be reached for comment.
Street Dept. clothing is taking the AME Sports spot. The owner said he will release more information closer to the opening later this month.
