This year’s Halloween weekend is packed with events in Kansas City, from paranormal investigations to a disco night at one of the city’s swankiest nightspots. Here are our seven favorite Halloween events in KC for the weekend of October 29-31, 2021.

Dark Forest | Thursday, October 28-Sunday, October 31

Quixotic’s Dark Forest is returning to Powell Gardens for one more weekend this year. As nightfall sweeps across an eerie Midwest sky, Dark Forest offers a magical and mysterious landscape with captivating music and innovative, creative technology. Local performance art collective Quixotic is working with Powell Gardens to create one of their signature immersive installations in the woods.

7-11 pm. Powell Gardens. 1609 NW US Highway 50, Kingsville, MO. Tickets are $28, parking is $5.

Farm to Table + Beer Dinner | Friday, October 29

At Colonial Gardens in Blue Springs, the distance between farm and table is just a few feet. This Friday, the upscale nursery and cafe hosts its second-ever Farm to Table Dinner. It’s a four-course meal that will be prepared with ingredients from local food purveyors starting in their own garden and continuing with River Watch beef, David’s Pasture and Juniper Hills. Each course is paired with an offering of beer from East Forty Brewing. Given its Halloween weekend, look for Colonial’s Pumpkin Ale, natch.

6 am-9 pm. Colonial Gardens. 27610 E Wyatt Road, Blue Springs. $79.

Disco at The Monarch | Friday, October 29

What better way to spend Halloween than at a disco party? The Monarch is a stylish cocktail lounge, and is going full Studio 54 for this one, so dust off your velvet jumpsuit and bust out the glitter. DJ Farhan will start playing music at 9 pm. Did you know disco balls were used widely in nightclubs as early as the 1920s? Now you do.

9 pm-1 am. 4808 Roanoke Parkway, KCMO.

Deanna Rose Farmstead | Friday, October 29-Sunday, October 31

It’s your final chance to get out to Deanna Rose Farmstead this season. There’s still plenty of hay to be had: a horse-drawn hayride, a hay pyramid and a hay slide. There’s also a spider web maze, lawn games and pumpkins for sale.

10 am–4 pm. 13800 Switzer Road, Overland Park. $3.

Paranormal Investigation – Missouri Town 1855 | Saturday, October 30

Even though Missouri Town 1855 is a fictional place, its buildings date back to the mid-1800s. That can only mean one thing: it is probably haunted. This weekend you can search the grounds of the living history museum with trained ghost hunters to seek out paranormal activity. Are ghosts real or fake in the fictional town? That’s for you to decide.

5:30-7 pm and 7:30-9 pm. 8010 East Park Road, Lee’s Summit. $20. Advance reservations are required.

Strawberry Hill Trick or Drink Bar Crawl | Saturday, October 30

Spend Halloween weekend in KC’s rising Strawberry Hill neighborhood. The Mockingbird Lounge and Manor Records are hosting a pub crawl on the hill with drink specials and games at each bar. Crawlers will receive goodie bags with a poster, a koozie and candy. Plus, there will be a costume contest with a prize. You can still go out to the bars on the hill this weekend without a ticket to the bar crawl, but if you do snag a ticket, the money will go to the non-profit record store and bar coming to Strawberry Hill later this year.

7-11:45 pm. The Mockingbird Lounge. 204 Orchard St., KCK. $15.

Wick & The Tricks Annual Halloween Ball | Saturday, October 30

If disco isn’t your thing, head to Lemonade Park this weekend for a night of rock and roll. You’ll get the best of both rock worlds with the softer stylings of The Creepy Jingles and the controlled aggression of punk band, Belle & The Vertigo Waves. You already know there’s going to be a costume contest here, too.

6 pm doors, 7 pm show. Lemonade Park, 1628 Wyoming St., KCMO. $10-$15.
