Bad news for everyone anxiously awaiting the start of Summer in Kansas City: It’s not only Schlitterbahn that will be out of commission this Memorial Day weekend.
On Friday afternoon, the Kansas City parks department sent out an announcement that the city’s public pools will not be opening this weekend.
“Water temperatures are too low to open and with the poor weather forecast this weekend they will not rise above the required 70 degrees,” the announcement read.
For safety reasons, pool water has to get above 70 degrees before the city will open — and the school districts the pools are located in has to be finished with its school year.
If you don’t want to get out a thermometer, stay tuned to kcparks.org for an announcement on the pool opening.
There is some good news for little tikes, though. Splash pads will open at 11 am on Saturday, May 25.
