In December’s Best New Restaurant feature, we told you about the sushi renaissance KC is experiencing. Kata Nori and Sushi Kodawari (yet to open) are just a couple of the exciting and fresh new sushi spots hitting the scene. Add the Country Club Plaza’s newest restaurant Kura Revolving Sushi Bar (200 W. 47th St., KCMO) to that list.

Kura boasts a few surprising elements: A conveyor belt delivers plates of sushi to diners as it travels around a track (all costing $3.20) and robots serve your drinks. Nigiri and traditional sushi rolls dominate the menu, but for those not wanting sushi, other choices such as ramen, dumplings and teriyaki chicken are also offered.

According to the Kansas City Star, the California-based chain has KC buzzing with excitement – there was a line out the door on Kura’s Dec. 22 opening day. Prefer to avoid the line? Kura’s publicist, Brittany Kiker, suggests downloading the restaurant’s app to get in line virtually and reduce your wait time.
