Meat Mitch’s Master Dinner Series is picking back up next month and starting off with a bang. The first dinner Barbacoa on May 8 is a collaboration between not one, but two local Mexican restaurants. The result will be a six-course fiery fusion between traditional Mexican flavors and classic KC ‘cue.

The dinner features Barbacoa (one of our Best New Restaurants of 2023) and Taco Naco, which made our Top 40 KC Restaurants in 2022. Taco Naco recently opened a second location in Westport to cater to their ever-growing audience.

According to Chef Roman of Barbacoa, the pairing of Mexican flavors and barbecue cooking techniques is nothing new.

“Barbecue is a very American concept as we know today, but its roots trace back through Mexico to indigenous tribes of Central and South America,” says Roman. “Those ancient cooking methods of imparting fire and smoke have always inspired me, so I’m proud to be able to honor them by pairing old and new techniques with a little bit of local flare for this collaboration.”

The dinner begins at 6 pm in Meat Mitch’s private dining room (3620 W. 95th St., OPKS). Diners will be able to enjoy a salsa tasting trio from all three chefs, empanadas, smoked lamb ribs and much more.

General and Bar Manager Madeleine Buechter’s craft cocktails will be paired with each course in this Master Dinner series meal. Buechter’s Barbacoa craft cocktail program is one of KC’s best and was featured in our Best New Restaurant’s feature. Read more about her extensive fine dining background here.
