A Skate shop plus music venue is coming to town

Sk8bar is coming to Westport.

The bar, live music venue and skateboard shop plans to open at 209 Westport Road, former home of Arizona Trading Co.

Brandon Rock and his wife, Jesse, owned and operated a Sk8bar in downtown St. Joseph, Missouri, for two years before closing it to open in Kansas City. The venue was a skateboard shop by day and bar and music venue by night. T.J. Vazquez is partnering with them in the new Westport venue, which they hope to open in August.

“Westport is just thriving, people just walking around all the time,” says Brandon Rock, who has skated for 37 years. He is recovering from a bad fall skating at Penn Valley Park, a broken bottle was to blame.

Arizona Trading Co. recently closed its Westport store after 26 years. It consolidated with its East Crossroads store at 1722 Oak St.
