Conroy’s Public House

There’s something for everyone at the family-friendly Conroy’s Public House in Overland Park. The Irishman sandwich boasts thick shavings of corned beef with caramelized onions, cheddar and a Guinness-whiskey mustard on a potato bun. Hefty cod fillets are battered with Smithwick’s beer, fried until golden and served with house-cut fries, mushy peas and coleslaw in the fish and chips dish. Cottage pie and fisherman pie round out the dinner menu, and weekend brunch features a full Irish breakfast, corned beef hash and homemade Irish scones. Don’t skip dessert — the Guinness brownie is heavenly.
O’Dowd’s Gastrobar

In 2018, O’Dowd’s — the long-standing and beloved Irish pub on the Country Club Plaza — underwent a top-notch renovation. In fair weather, you can now enjoy a fabulous rooftop patio. The menu was reimagined, too, but it still features some excellent Irish classics. Try the beef short rib braised in a rich Guinness sauce and served with a sour cream-chive “boxty” (potato pancake), caraway-braised cabbage and horseradish-thyme aioli. There are also fish and chips, shepherd’s pie and corned beef hash.
Brady’s Public House

Brady’s Public House opened in 2017, and if it slipped under your radar, we heartily recommend rectifying that situation. Everything on Shaun Brady’s menu is made from scratch, from his Scotch eggs (wrapped in pork sausage, breaded, fried and served with Coleman’s mustard) to the traditional cottage pie (similar to shepherd’s pie but containing beef instead of lamb). There’s also a steak and Guinness pie, an Irish whiskey-cured salmon BLT and a fisherman pie (piled with salmon, cod, shrimp and mussels in a cream sauce and topped with puff pastry). And if you’ve ever wondered what a full Irish breakfast entailed (spoiler: it’s a hearty platter of bacon, sausage, black pudding, white pudding, baked beans, eggs and toast), Brady’s serves it during brunch Thursday through Saturday.
The Dubliner

Nestled into the heart of Kansas City’s Power & Light District, the Dubliner is best known for its extensive beer and whiskey list, but to ignore the excellent menu here is to know regret. Try the flavor-packed but elegant corned beef and cabbage, or go for one of the usual suspects, such as fish and chips or shepherd’s pie featuring beef and lamb. There’s also an impressive Irish stew called the “Dublin coddle,” a medley of sausage, potatoes, bacon, onions and cabbage. If dessert is calling to you, we highly recommend the cheesecake swirled with crunchy house-made Irish toffee and shaved hazelnuts.
Paddy O’Quigley’s
oquigleys.com
Paddy O’Quigley’s has a fairly Americanized menu, but if you squint, you can pick out some traditional Irish gems at this Overland Park restaurant. There’s a bountiful shepherd’s pie (Paddy’s is made with ground beef, peas, corn, green beans and carrots under a bed of gravy, mashed potatoes and cheese) and a generous plate of fish and chips. The real star is the Irish bread pudding, made with pineapple, raisins and creme anglaise.
