The Scene: Newhouse Shelter Gala

Photography by Baleigh Thompson

On Saturday, November 13th, 680 Kansas Citians came together to say WE STAND WITH SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!

Newhouse celebrated its 50 Year Anniversary Gala as Kansas City’s first and oldest domestic violence shelter. The gala raised a record-breaking $520,695, and every dollar will go directly to the front lines of the organization’s mission allowing victims of domestic violence to step out of danger and into healing at Newhouse.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience domestic violence at some point in their lifetime, and just last year Newhouse served over 600 families who were fleeing danger. Domestic violence is a community health crisis, and Newhouse exists to shatter the barriers that feed the cycle of abuse and works for all people to live a life free of domestic violence.
