Suffleboard in the West Bottoms?

A new shuffleboard and arcade entertainment spot is headed to the West Bottoms this July.

Larks, whose co-founder and CEO Curt Skallerup says it will be a place with “great food, a busy bar scene, and fun experiences that appeal to a wide age-range of people,” has been in the works for several months, but plans to open next month.

“Simply put, it’s a place you want to go for lunch, dinner, on a date, for a girls’ or guys’ night out, host your next corporate or group event, or bring the family for an always enjoyable experience,” Skallerup says.

The 30,000-square-foot Larks will be at 1527 W. Ninth St., in the West Bottoms Flats.

It will have 10 shuffleboard courts inside and in a covered outside area, a 5,000-square-foot arcade, a full-service bar, lounge and a patio.

The restaurant will serve its signature quesadillas (including beef brisket, and Santa Fe with roasted Poblano chiles), salads, pizza (including the Funky chicken with chicken, pesto sauce, jalapenos, artichoke hearts, ricotta cheese and red onions) and smashburgers.

It also will have such shareables as hummus, sliders, nachos, wings, cheese curds and Reuben deviled eggs.

For dessert there will be churros, white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, and chocolate layer cake.

Several new menu items will be special to the Kansas City location.

During the grand opening weekend, which will be announced later, it will have a one-day shuffleboard tournament for all ages and skill levels.

Larks, as in “happy-as-a-lark,” opened in Fairview, Texas, in May, and another is scheduled to open in Nashville, Tennessee, later this year.

Locations are in development in San Antonio,Texas; San Diego, California; St. Petersburg, Florida; Boston, Massachusetts; and Atlanta, Georgia.

Skallerup founded Altitude Trampoline Parks and built it into nearly 100 franchise locations in several countries before selling it.
