Lenexa’s Sierra Grill is expanding

The owners of Lenexa’s more upscale Sierra Grill are expanding with a more casual quick-service barbecue restaurant.

Ryan and Maricris Edwards plan to open Sierra BBQ at 11 am, Oct. 22, in the original home of Sierra Grill (11099 Lackman Road) in Lenexa. Maricris’s maiden name is Sierra.

The couple will start with wood-fired pork ribs (both baby back and spare), brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork, smoked turkey and sausage. It won’t have a bar but will carry canned and bottled beers, as well as canned cocktails. House-made sides will include beans, potato salad and coleslaw.

Customers will order at the counter and servers will bring it to the table for those dining in. The restaurant has about 50 seats, but it will be geared towards take-out and delivery. It also will offer catering.

Chef Edwards had some smoked meats at the original Sierra Grill, which opened in the industrial area at College Boulevard and Lackman Road in early 2017. The family owns the building, which once had a Quiznos.

“We still have that location and we already had the smoker. I wanted to do something different,” Ryan says.

Sierra BBQ hours will tentatively be 11 am to 7 pm. Tuesdays through Fridays. It will be closed Saturdays through Mondays for now.

Sierra Grill relocated to the Lenexa Center (8659 Penrose Lane) nearly two years ago.
