Soup weather is here, and KC Craft Ramen (6830 W. 119th St. OP, KS) is kickstarting the season with a special in-house pop-up. During the first week of November, Japan-based ramen shop Misora-Do will be taking over KC Craft Ramen’s kitchen and serving their specialty – authentic miso ramen.
Kenichi Ota, co-owner of Overland Park’s KC Craft Ramen, has been a ramen schoolteacher in the US and Japan for several years and is excited to showcase his friend Yuki Nakamura, chef of Misora-Do, in his shop. Misora-Do has three locations in Tochigi, Japan, and is known for its pure rice miso.
During November 1-5 guests can experience several of Misora-Do’s handmade ramen including its signature miso ramen, Tonkotsu ramen (pork and soy sauce-based), spicy sesame seed ramen and a vegan ramen. KC Craft Ramen will not be serving their menu during this time.
Tickets are $16.50 per person. Guests can buy tickets to the event here.
Nakamura will be bringing miso from Japan and his team will be showcasing expert and tedious ramen techniques throughout the menu.
“[The miso] is blended with dozens of seasonings and the flavors of chicken and pork,” Ota says. “It’s kneaded together for an extended period of time while slowly adding heat at just the right temperature to ensure that the miso aroma remains strong.”
If the collaboration goes well, Ota hopes to continue to feature other guest chefs in his ramen shop.
