If rereading Harry Potter for the 36th time has left you with a hankering for butterbeer, good news: There’s a muggle version at Westport Café & Bar, an Amelie-cute French bistro with checkerboard floors and a vintage tile ceiling. Westport Café & Bar bar manager Bronson Kistler’s hot buttered rum features English Harbour 5-Year, an aged rum from Antigua with rich caramel and toffee notes. It works well with the hot apple cider he uses instead of boring hot water, which the traditional recipe calls for. But the secret ingredient is a dollop of WC&B’s compound butter, made with fresh cream, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Accio cozy vibes.
WC&B Hot Buttered Rum
• 1 tablespoon butter
• 6 ounces apple cider
• 1 1/2 ounces aged rum
• Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Drop the butter into a small heated glass or mug. Add the hot cider and stir until butter is dissolved. Add rum, and stir briefly. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
