One of our city’s most iconic breweries is adding a major addition to its taproom.
Boulevard Brewing Co. is expanding its Tours & Rec Center with a new outdoor bar and patio slated to open just in time for summer, and the World Cup.
The brewery announced last week that construction has officially begun on a second-story outdoor bar and patio, dubbed Boulevard Yard, which will sit above the existing Beer Hall patio. Work on the project began January 14, with the goal of welcoming visitors from around the world ahead of the world’s largest international soccer tournament coming to Kansas City this summer.
The new addition will more than triple the size of the current Beer Hall patio and offer views of the downtown skyline. Designed as an indoor-outdoor destination, Boulevard Yard’s new bar will, of course, serve the full lineup of Boulevard beers and beverages, along with a mix of comfortable outdoor seating areas intended for both casual hangouts and large crowds.

“We’ve dreamed of having our own backyard hangout at the brewery for a long time,” states Amber Ayres, Boulevard’s director of consumer experience, in a press release. “This second-story addition will offer a great mix of skyline views, patio vibes and Boulevard fun. With the world’s largest soccer tournament coming to Kansas City this summer, we’re excited to show off our city to both locals and newcomers.”
Boulevard Yard will also include multiple large-screen TVs for sports viewing, in hopes to become a central hub for game days and summer events.
The new addition connects the existing Beer Hall patio to Boulevard’s upper parking deck, providing convenient parking access along with a direct path into the Beer Hall. Boulevard has partnered with two Kansas City-based firms on the project: Helix Architecture + Design is serving as architect of record, while A.L. Huber is leading construction as general contractor.
