Corvino Supper Club and Tasting Room has long been considered one of KC’s top fine dining establishments (we dubbed it the No. 1 Restaurant in KC in 2022). Despite seven years of success, the Crossroads restaurant is making some creative changes, starting with turning part of its space into a cocktail lounge (1830 Walnut St.). The transformation is expected to be complete by September.

“I’ve been creating tasting menus consistently for the latter half of my 25-year career,” says Chef Michael Corvino, two-time James Beard Best Chef Midwest nominee. “Now, I am focused on food that is accessible to more people through both the ever-changing Supper Club menu and a cocktail lounge called Songbird.”

Songbird Cocktail Lounge will take over Corvino’s Tasting Room, a small dining space where customers could indulge in a seasonal 10-course chef’s prix fixe menu. Corvino‘s Supper Club, its larger dining area, will remain focused on approachable modern fare.

Songbird will be a 25-seat separated space from Supper Club with a menu focused on 16 craft cocktails, including non-alcoholic options, with prices ranging from $12 to $25. If you prefer a draft beer or glass of wine, a bartender will bring it over from the Supper Club. “Unlike the edgy noir of the Supper Club, Songbird will have infusions of color and cozy warmth,” states the press release.

Corvino’s bartending team goes through extensive food, hospitality and service training before stepping behind the bar. While the Supper Club focuses on a cocktail menu full of classics and seasonal riffs, Corvino’s new endeavor will lean more modern.

“Our favorite bars are ones we can walk into and feel at home,” says co-owner Christina Corvino who is the general manager and sommelier. “The staff is knowledgeable and kind, the menu is ever rotating and everything is delicious.”

Customers of Songbird will also be able to grab a bite to eat. Chef Corvino is busy whipping up ideas for a potential small plate menu, including warm croissants with raclette cheese, pork belly muffins, barbecue tofu skewers and an ice cream sandwich.

“How many bars have the advantage of a full-service kitchen?” asks Chef Corvino. “We have no limits to what we can do so we’re keeping it fun.”

Songbird will be open 5 pm, Thursday through Monday. Corvino Supper Club opens nightly at 5 pm. To take advantage of one of the last evenings in the Tasting Room, reservations can be made at corvino.com or by calling (816) 832-4564.
