With the weather warming up, patios are the perfect place to break out of winter hibernation mode and get a bit of fresh air, and the Covid pandemic caused restaurants to get creative with outdoor spaces. We’ve rounded up a list of eighteen must-try patios in Kansas City.

Char Bar

One of the city’s all-time great patios, Char Bar in Westport draws a hip crowd for lawn games, ribs and excellent people-watching. Char Bar just reopened in early March, and we’re all about it.

Va Bene

We’re in love with this friendly and stylish new Italian spot in Prairie Village, which has a welcoming front patio. The cocktails with house-made Limoncello are all a great pick, as is the frozen hot cocoa on the dessert menu.

The Monarch Bar

For the patio-lover who wants to get a little dressy. Surrounded by flowers and foliage, The Monarch Bar’s patio is a picturesque place to enjoy some of the city’s finest cocktails.

Taco Republic

Taco Republic offers a great picnic feel with picnic benches and an area for bean-bag toss.

Mickey’s Hideaway

Sunshine and trees give a nice balance of warmth and shade on the patio at this Westport spot, which also has a pretty sweet indoor setup with foosball tables, fireplaces and a sleek bar.

Whether rain or shine, Cafe Trio’s covered patio lets you enjoy the outdoors and view over Country Club Plaza no matter the weather.

Bar K

Want to grab a drink but don’t want to leave your dog? Never fear, Bar K is the pet-friendliest bar around, with blocked-off spaces also dedicated to small dogs and puppies.

Chicken N Pickle

Food, games, firepits, patioβ€”Chicken N Pickle is like its own little city in the Northland. Be sure to book courts online in advance!

Tavern at Mission Farms

This patio gives you the perfect opportunity to people-watch as you hide under the cover of the trees and enjoy a nice weekend brunch.

Tribe Street Kitchen

The patio at Tribe Street Kitchen matches its globally-inspired menuβ€”bright, colorful and lively.

Up-Down

If you’re itching to get out of the pinball and skee ball disco inside Up-Down, take advantage of their first- or second-floor patios, which have giant Jenga and Connect Four to play.

Brick House

Notorious for their generous mimosa pours, Brick House’s patio is the perfect spot to catch a weekend game or play bags with friends.

La Bodega

The west Crossroads tapas spot has a recently-expanded patio with cushioned seats and fire pits, making it feel like you’re truly in a Spanish street cafe.

Trezo Mare Restaurant & Lounge

Trezo Mare‘s patio has outdoor heating and fire pits to keep you toasty throughout the night and has live music during the week.

JJ’s Restaurant

Known for having one of the best wine lists in town, JJ’s inviting patio is first-come, first-serve and offers overhead views of the Plaza.

District Pour House + Kitchen

This Waldo spot has a streetside patio, which is a great place to grab a cold one and people watch.

Sandhills Brewing

This brewery in the heart of walkable, charming Mission has made great use of the sidewalk out front. Grab the hazy IPA, Junco, on a sunny day.

The Well

This rooftop patio at this Waldo institution, which covers the entirety of the bar’s top, is such an institution it’s almost easy to forget about it.
