The rugged and masculine feel at Buffalo Mane Barbershop is made evident by the giant bison head on the wall at the downtown location. Hudson/Hawk
The Mark Twain quotes on the wall, wood paneling and hanging American flag make Hudson/Hawk feel so utterly Midwest — which is fitting considering the chain sprouted in Springfield. The Rockford
The Rockford is as masculine as masculine gets. The shop’s mission states “We honor every opportunity to act, and be treated, like a man,” and a motorcycle is on display near the check-in desk. Aside from typical barbershop offerings (complete with vibrating shoulder massages, might we add), The Rockford’s menu offers true treat-yourself items like paraffin dips and scalp treatments. 115 E. Sole Patch
Owner Ron Mayer opened KCK’s Sole Patch 12 years ago. The menu (which the shop calls a “setlist”) includes services like Center Stage Haircut, Head Rush Rinse and Harmonic Hot Shave. Chop Tops
The defining trait of this edgy barbershop is that customers get an ice-cold Pabst Blue Ribbon beer with every haircut. Bumper stickers and old band posters line the walls at locations in Waldo and on 39th Street. Chop Tops specializes in lady cuts and color, too. Waldo: 115 E. The Barberette
