West Bottoms Heritage Days Festival

The annual Strawberry Swing Heritage Days Festival in the historic West Bottoms with KC makers, food trucks and live mural paintings is this Saturday. This event takes place under the bridge at 14th and Hickory and draws an abundance of local artists and vendors. There’s no better way to spend a Saturday in the Bottoms.

Second Friday in Downtown Excelsior Springs

The quaint and historic downtown Excelsior is hosting its second Friday events this week—there will be plenty of happy hours to end the week, artists and live music, plus shops will be open late. If you need more ideas about what to do in Excelsior, check out the recent trip we took there.

Lives and Legacy of Liberty: African American Service in WWI

Learn about African American veterans who served in WWI at his panel discussion event with Dr. Cecilia Robinson, Dr. Antonio Holland and Marvin Greer. The program is presented in partnership with the Clay County African American Legacy Inc. and the Greater Kansas City Black History Study Group.

The Old Man and the Old Moon 

KCRep has a new, whimsical American fable running this month that blends puppetry and live indie-folk music. The Old Man and the Old Moon is an epic tale of love and triumph created by PigPen Theatre Co. and was called “a phenomenon” by the Boston Herald.

Savor the Season

Kansas City magazine is debuting its first Savor the Season event, the first in what will be a series of dining experiences. Executive chef of the Savoy Brandon Brumback will prepare a customized three-course meal with complimentary cocktail pairings crafted by Lifted Spirits Distillery. You’ll also learn how to create the cocktails served as you tap into the tastes of spring at this first-of-its-kind event.

Sweeping the Chimney through the Mantle of the Earth

Charlotte Street Foundation presents another stellar exhibition, Sweeping the Chimney through the Mantle of the Earth, featuring nine contemporary artists. The exhibit is curated by Charlotte Street Studio resident Andrew Ordonez and presents new interpretations and recordings of nature while considering the physiological extension between the body and Earth through the lens of social and environmental unrest.
