After Two Decades, Brio On The Plaza Closes

After more than two decades on the Country Club Plaza, Brio Italian Grille has closed.

A sign on the door of the restaurant (502 Nichols Rd., KCMO) says: “Sorry, this location has closed. Thank you for your patronage over the years. It was our pleasure serving you.”

A restaurant employee confirmed the closing but could not comment further. Officials with Florida-based Earl Enterprises, owner of Brio and several other national brands including Bravo! Italian Kitchen, couldn’t be reached for comment this week.

Brio took a whopping 17,200-square-foot two-story corner space (in the former Seville Square) for a late 2004 opening.

In a statement, Drew Steffen, CEO and president of The Village Collection, the Plaza’s new owners, said: “Since the acquisition, our team has been hard at work envisioning the future of Country Club Plaza. We are eager to transform the Plaza to the gorgeous shopping and dining destination which everyone can be proud of. With that, Kansas Citians can expect to see some strategic closures as tenants leave or relocate to help pave the way for important renovations and improvements that will help us restore Country Club Plaza as the crown jewel of the Midwest.”

Texas-based HP Village Management purchased the Plaza in late June of 2024. They recently changed the company’s name to The Village Collection.

Brio’s sister restaurant, Bravo! Italian Kitchen, is still open in the Northland’s Zona Rosa.

A Bravo location that closed in Leawood’s Town Center Plaza a couple of years ago is still dark.
