In February 2015, Border Brewing became the first brewery taproom to open in the Crossroads, today the city’s most beer-dense neighborhood. Until closing earlier this year, it remained one of the most chill places to sip a patio beer.
Early this year, Border announced it would be moving to a larger space, giving its old space to an upstart brewery, and its Strawberry Blonde has been sorely missed since.
Border is re-opening this Friday, November 12, and the new location is only a block away from the original space. The new spot nearly triples Border’s old twelve-hundred-square-foot taproom in size, which means more room for brewing and more space for sitting. There will also be more events happening in the new location, which is still in the Beer District.
“Our top complaint was that there wasn’t seating available, especially on the weekends,” Eric Martens, owner of Border says. “We will have plenty more seating and production at the new space and will be able to do more events that we weren’t able to previously.”
Border will have its four flagship beers—the cult favorite Strawberry Blonde, Ribbon Cutter IPA, Patio Pale Ale and Shiftie IPA—and some seasonal options ready to go on tap. The new taproom has a forty-two-foot bar and seven-barrel brewhouse. The expansion will also give more room to Border’s canning operation, plus several new projects that were not previously possible due to the brewery’s size.
“We are able to stay in the East Crossroads with the rest of the breweries and distilleries,” Martens says, “which has turned into a fantastic community of businesses and a great destination for craft beverages.”
The reopening will take place from noon to 11 pm this Friday and Border’s new hours will be noon to 8 pm on Sunday, 4-9 pm Tuesday-Thursday and noon to 11 pm Friday and Saturday. The new location is at 512 E. 18th St., KCMO.
