Browse the liquor store coolers and you’ll find plenty of creative takes on hard ciders. Many breweries are branching out far beyond apple, creating fermented concoctions with fruits spanning from yuzu to pineapple, and infusing the beverage with spicy and herbal twists.
Boulevard Brewing Company’s latest limited-edition cider, however, is rather traditional. The brewery is known to craft some daring flavor profiles, but for this collaboration with Louisburg Cider Mill, Boulevard doesn’t mess with perfection.
For many Kansas Citians, Louisburg Cider Mill’s apple cider has become a staple of the fall season, whether you enjoy visiting the farm to get your fill of cinnamon-sugar dusted donuts or reliably grab a gallon from grocery store shelves. Spiked and spiced, Boulevard’s Old Fashioned Hard Apple Cider, starts with the Kansas farm’s freshly milled and pressed apples, preserving the fruit at its prime. Pouring amber and a little hazy, the cider is sharp and lively at 6.9% ABV.
We recommend pairing the slightly sweet beverage with a spicy bowl of chili and a slice of cornbread for an unpretentious, cozy and Midwesterner-approved autumnal meal. But it also goes well with a spread of dips, chicken wings and a football game.
The hard cider is now available (while supplies last) in six-packs at grocery stores and on tap handles around the metro—and of course, at Boulevard Brewing Beer Hall (2534 Madison Ave, KCMO) in the Westside. boulevard.com.
