It’s official – well almost. The impending sale of the Country Club Plaza is expected to be finalized June 28 with an event led by KC Mayor Quinton Lucas to welcome the new owners on Monday.
The ownership group, HP Village Partners, is a luxury retail company whose principal owners are descendents of H.L. Hunt, father of Kansas City Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt. Village Partners is best known for its Dallas property Highland Park Village, a luxury shopping district built in 1931 and similar to the Plaza.
The sale has generated quite an optimistic buzz, with hope that new ownership can revitalize the plaza and bring the shopping center back to its former glory. Lucas is optimistic that the city and new owners will be a collaborative partnership that will transform Kansas City’s “crown jewel” in wonderful new ways, he says.
Currently there are multiple vacant buildings dotted through out the shopping district and a huge 3-acre lot on the west side that has sat vacant for several years when in 2022 Nordstrom decided to pull-out.
