El Café Cubano, the mobile coffee trailer known for its bold cafecito and flaky pastries, has officially taken up residence in downtown’s City Hall.
Inside City Hall’s rotunda (414 E. 12th St., KCMO), El Café Cubano now serves its signature espresso drinks made the traditional way: sugar whipped into espresso as it brews to create the signature “espumita,” a creamy foam central to Cuban coffee culture.
Founded by Racquel Rodriguez, the business opened the City Hall kiosk on June 1 as part of the city’s Open Doors initiative, which is utilizing downtown spaces ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The City Hall location gives El Café Cubano new visibility by placing Cuban coffee culture directly in the daily flow of downtown workers, visitors and government employees.
El Café Cubano also celebrated its second anniversary this week. “There are a lot of Cubans that live, work and reside in Kansas City, and there’s very little Cuban coffee here,” Rodriguez told Kansas City in April. “I decided to hit the market pretty hard with our product, and it’s done really well.”
The coffee trailer will also continue to appear at events throughout the city, including stops in Lenexa on June 18 and 19 from 9 am to noon at 1319 W. 96th Terrace.
