Here are eleven things to do in KC this weekend, March 19—22 including Kansas City Fashion Week, Jazz at The Q and The Great Gatsby.

Kansas City Fashion Week 2026 Spring/Summer Collection

Kansas City Fashion Week returns with its 2026 Spring/Summer Collection, welcoming local and international designers alike to Union Station. The collection culminates in four bold nights of runway shows, beginning Wednesday, with several student designers making their KCFW debut. Beyond the runway, the weeklong series of events also includes the return of the popular (and adorable) fashionFIT Puppy Yoga, held Tuesday at Hotel Kansas City.

Cowtown Vintage & Art Exchange

Every third Thursday of the month, this grassroots market brings a curated pop-up to Midtown’s El Torreon. Set to the soundtrack of local bands and DJs, shoppers can browse everything from trendy Y2K pieces to handmade goods to books. The event series, which recently celebrated its first anniversary, pays homage to the venue once known as the Cowtown Ballroom, a hall that hosted artists like Frank Zappa and Van Morrison throughout the ’70s.

“living Room” by Hailes

Hailes—an R&B artist and Broadway performer who splits her time between NYC and her hometown of Kansas City—launches a new artist-led residency at one of the city’s hottest clubs: In The Lowest Ferns. At “living Room,” Hailes opens and closes the night as the host, and brings a special guest to KC to headline each installment. The series’ inaugural performance features singer-songwriter (and fellow Broadway performer) Yana Perrault.

Jazz at The Q: Henry Scamurra

It’s not hard to find a jazz combo playing in bustling bars throughout Kansas City, but dedicated listening rooms are far and few between. Pianist and producer Eddie Moore wants to change that with his curated series, Jazz at The Q. Joined by Tri-Angular—a powerhouse collective of musicians from KC and Chicago—alto saxophonist Henry Scamurra headlines the Quality Hill Playhouse lounge.

Kansas City Ballet Presents “Stars and Stripes”

The Kansas City Ballet celebrates the United States’ 250th anniversary with this patriotic production. Centered around George Balanchine’s neoclassical choreography Stars and Stripes, the program consists of two other short works: Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo and a world premiere of Caili Quan’s A Home Away.

Orchid Delirium

A stunning and vibrant display awaits at Powell Gardens’ Orchid Delirium. Originally launched in 2022, the annual indoor exhibit showcases hundreds of alternating blooms from the garden’s extensive collection. This year’s exhibit is inspired by the United States’ 250th anniversary,

The Great Gatsby

Nearly a century after The Great Gatsby was first published, a musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Prohibition-era classic made its Broadway debut. Now, two years after its premiere, the jazz-infused production is hitting the road. Featuring a sweeping score and lavish Art Deco-inspired costuming and set design, PNC Broadway brings this story of opulence, dissatisfaction and obsession to KC.

Kansas City Jazz Orchestra Presents “Never Too Much”

Vocalist, songwriter and producer Luther Vandross got his start as a background singer for artists like Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan and Diana Ross. Eventually, Flack took notice of Vandross’ star power and gave him the needed encouragement to focus on a solo career instead. His solo debut album, Never Too Much, quickly catapulted his career. The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to the R&B artist’s vast catalogue alongside soulful singer Lee Langston.

“The World in Kansas City”

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art prepares for this summer’s World Cup matches with its latest exhibition, “The World in Kansas City.” Representative not only of the global event but also of KC as a multicultural hub, the exhibit features a diverse array of artists with ties to the region. Curator Jessica S. Hong says the display aims to showcase “how we all belong to a shared, complicated and nuanced social and cultural fabric.”

Candlelight: The Best of Hans Zimmer

Candlelight’s performance series transforms beloved pop songs into elegant string quartet arrangements, akin to the soundtrack of Netflix’s popular series Bridgerton. This weekend, Fountain City String Quartet delves deep into the catalogue of film composer Hans Zimmer, playing selections from blockbusters like The Lion King, Interstellar and more.

Whiskey Dynamite

The electrifying show Whiskey Dynamite returns and is set to captivate audiences once again with explosive performances and an engaging cast. This interactive multimedia performance—self described as a “nonsensical neowestern cabaret”—blends acrobatics, immersive visuals and live music. The event is produced by KC’s own innovative performance art collective, Quixotic, to bring audiences a unique multi-sensory celebratory experience.

January 16—April 18. Times vary. The Grand Theater (at Crown Center).
