The Overland Park Farmers Market is getting bigger and better in 2022.
The footprint of Johnson County’s marquee farmers market is expanding from its pavilion and out onto nearby parking lots and even Marty Street. Portions of Marty Street in downtown OP will now be closed during the market’s operating hours. For most of 2020 and 2021, the market had operated outside the Matt Ross Community Center instead of in its traditional pavilion space.
“This change allows the market to operate safely as Coronavirus continues to affect our way of life,” says a press release from the city.
The new layout allows vendors to have extra space between stalls, makes for more parking adjacent to the market and adds restrooms.
More good news: the city of OP and the Downtown Overland Park Partnership are working to bring back outdoor entertainment in the Clocktower Plaza, which had been discontinued during the pandemic.
Opening Day at the Overland Park Farmers’ Market is Saturday, April 16. The market runs every Saturday of the summer after that. Wednesday markets, which are added at the height of the local growing season, will begin on June 1.
