Kansas City’s own Widow Von’Du will appear on new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race

Kansas City drag fixture Widow Von’Du will be hitting the small screen as she joins the cast of season 12 of VH1’s hit competition-based reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race next month.

The 30-year-old Von’Du (aka Ray Fry), has been bucking and twirling in the Kansas City drag scene for several years. You can catch her shows at venues such as Missie B’s and at Hamburger Mary’s where she runs and hosts the show Drag Survivor, a competition for local, up-and-coming drag queens to solidify their spot in KC’s cut-throat drag circuit.

Von’Du is the second drag queen from Kansas City to appear on the show. Monique Heart represented KC on season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and on season 4 of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars, and Heart was named one of the 100 Most Powerful Drag Queens in America by New York magazine last year, which just comes to show the influence that Drag Race has for the careers of the queens who walk through its “werk room” doors.

Rumors and speculation that Von’Du was to appear on the show have been swirling around the local drag scene and on online forums for months, and all was confirmed when the cast was announced on January 23rd.

You can watch Widow Von’Du bring the house down on RuPaul’s Drag Race every Friday starting February 28th at 7 pm CST on VH1.
