KC’s Power and Light is continuing its urban renaissance with plans to bring two new restaurants to the area. Opening in collaboration with the Wichita-based Thrive Restaurant Group, the new additions are Homegrown and Modern Market Eatery.

Both restaurants are expected to open sometime next year.

Homegrown is a breakfast, brunch and lunch spot. The Power & Light location will be the Thrive Restaurant Group’s ninth restaurant, including three other Kansas City-area locations in Brookside, Liberty and Leawood. The newest establishment will occupy the space of the former Flying Saucer Daught Emporium restaurant that closed in 2020 (101 E. 13th St. KCMO).

The Modern Market Eatery is a fast casual spot with a menu full of ethically sourced ingredients and free from artificial flavors, trans fats, hormones, antibiotics or unnecessary additives (1347 Main St. KCMO). The eater offers a variety of made-from-scratch lunch and dinner options, including grain bowls, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, beer, wine and more.

This will be Modern Market Eatery’s second location in the Kansas City area, with its highly anticipated Prairie Village location set to open later this year.

“We eagerly anticipate the arrival of HomeGrown and Modern Market Eatery to the District in 2024,” says John Moncke, president of the Kansas City Power & Light District. “With nearly one thousand residential units in the District and more on the way when Midland Lofts opens next year, we are very intentional about the experiences we are curating for our residents and millions of guests alike.”
