Looking for a home

A note scrawled in red marker on the glass door of her stall sums up her personality: “I’m such a good girl.”

Hocus Pocus, a tan and white mixed-breed has been at KC Pet Project for a couple of weeks. Recent arrivals have Halloween-theme names such as Abracadabra, Beetlejuice, Freddy Krueger, Omen and Phantom.

Hocus Pocus is 6 ½ years old, currently weighing in at 56 pounds, neutered and heartworm positive (easily managed with medication, the staff said). She was found on Oct. 16 at Elmwood Avenue and Mall Drive in Swope Park.

The first thing visitors notice are her striking different colored eyes – one ice blue, the other a warm cacao. On our trip outside, she was cuddly and sleepy-eyed in the sun, or her head was swiveling one way or the other, taking in the sights.

She’s super calm, walks gently on her leash, and likes checking out possible holes at tree bases. She has been playgroup tested with other dogs and is “tolerant,” meaning she allows dogs to come to hang out with her, but maybe not seek out their company.

The staff’s notes call her “gentle” and “dainty.”

A good forever home might be with a family that likes to do something on the weekends. She doesn’t need to expend a bunch of energy every single day, the staff says.

Hocus Pocus is currently at KC Pet Project’s Zona Rosa satellite adoption center (8721 N. Stoddard Ave.) in the Northland.

Take her home for an adoption fee of $150. On Wednesdays the adoption fee is waived for all dogs six months and older, or 20 pounds or more.
