Kansas City has been named the number-one ‘slow travel’ location in the world

We’ve always seen Kansas City as having the perfect ratio of city-to-simplicity—and we’re glad others are finally seeing that too.

A recent CNBC Make It article reported an Icelandair analysis naming Kansas City as the number one travel destination for “slow travel,” beating out other major European destinations like Vienna and Copenhagen.

“Slow travel” is defined as the ability to take a working vacation, meaning you can work remotely all day, then spend your nights on vacation, taking in the people, culture and local appeal of a brand-new place. Often people who slow travel will travel solo for weeks at a time.

Slow travel in Kansas City may look like typing away on your laptop at one of our favorite coffee shops, and then hitting one of the many local bars as soon as you’re off the clock. That said, you’re also not limited to a night-life routine when you visit Kansas City.

You can head to Arrowhead for a Chiefs game or the Nelson-Atkins Museum for some fine art and check out the barbecue and jazz joints sprinkled throughout the whole metro. You might even spend the evening at Loose Park or Worlds of Fun. That’s what is great about Kansas City—you can both escape and embrace the city within a single day.

This isn’t the only national love Kansas City is getting in advance of hosting the World Cup—the bro-y culture site Thrillist just featured the city in a piece written by local influencer Kasim Hardaway.
