SoT is one of Kansas City’s best bars. And when we say that KC has the best cocktail scene in the Midwest, it’s one of the reasons why.
But the high-end downtown cocktail establishment has run afoul of one of the city’s best-known people: Jackson Mahomes, the controversial kid-brother of the Kansas City football team’s all-world quarterback.
Details of the confrontation are sketchy, but it’s safe to say that at some point this weekend Jackson Mahomes was not treated how he expected to be treated by Kansas City servers and lashed out at the bar, by name, using his highly-followed, verified Instagram account. On an Instagram story that was just deleted, Mahomes said “the service is absolutely terrible and the servers are so rude.” He then posted responses from people agreeing.
SoT was attacked by Mahomes’ followers on social media and posted a brutal response in the guise of an “apology.”
“We are sorry that we set boundaries that you tried to ignore,” the bar said in a statement. “Oftentimes people with un-earned status and a sense of entitlement think they are above the rules and will lash out at the employee enforcing them.”
“We survived a global pandemic, we’ll survive your ego,” the bar posted, reciting some of Mahomes past antics, which include dumping water on Ravens fans and dancing on the memorial of the late Sean Taylor “for TikTok clout.”
“We have not been fortunate enough to be born into a much more talented and much more famous family but we would like to think that if we did have that much luck- we would use our influence in more responsible ways,” the statement reads.
As part of his response, Jackson Mahomes has deleted his posts attacking SoT but left up an undeleted support tweet from Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas, posted after Mahomes dumped water on opposing fans in the level below his club seats.
