After two years, Ombra, a steakhouse and wine bar in North KC, is shuttering its doors. The restaurant took to Instagram on Saturday to make the announcement of its immediate closure.
“The decision has not been an easy one, but I know it is what is best for us,” Ombra’s owners Sarah Nelson and Louis Guerrieri stated in the post.
“The difficult decision to close Ombra is bittersweet, but our other concept Carne Diem is just a few doors down,” the owners wrote in another post.
Husband and wife duo Nelson and Guerrieri opened Ombra with an emphasis on nose-to-tail butchery. The menu focused on old-school cooking techniques and utilizing as much of the animal as possible.
While Ombra, located in the Village at Briarcliff shopping center (4179 Mulberry Dr.), may be closing, its sister business, Carne Diem, remains open. Carne Diem is Nelson and Guerrieri’s butcher shop, deli and pantry, located just a few doors down from Ombra. Carne Diem recently just received its liquor license and now also sells wine and high end spirits.
The 4,800 square-foot shop’s retail section offers products like finishing oils, vinegars, tinned fish, cheese selection, seasonal produce, grab-and-go meals and housemade pastas.
