Murmuration Eatery & Cocktail Bar (307 Main St., murmurationeatery.com)

Murmuration Eatery & Cocktail Bar is the newest addition to City Market and offers brunch, lunch and cocktails. It’s the sister restaurant to City Market Coffee Roasters and opened in an adjoining space. The grand opening will be held Wednesday, April 16. More information to come.

Thai Orchid (460 NW Legacy Dr., thaiorchikc.com)

The locally owned Thai restaurant Thai Orchid has opened a second location in the Northland. The new site joins Thai Orchid’s Mission location on the Kansas side which has been around for 26 years. The new spot is only open for dinner Wednesday through Monday, and the liquor license is expected mid-April. To read more, click here.

Betty Rae’s (6936 West 135th St., Overland Park, KS, bettyraes.com)

Betty Rae’s Ice Cream is hosting a grand opening for its new Overland Park location April 16 through 18. The new Overland Park location is the sixth KC-area Betty Rae’s. See below for grand opening customer deals.

  • Wednesday, April 16:
    • First 50 in line get free ice cream (up to 2 scoops)
    • Free toppings and sauces
    • Betty Rae’s will be sporadically giving away swag, such as hats, shirts and mugs, during the grand opening festivities.
    • Sign up for or sign in to the loyalty program for a chance to win free ice cream for a year.
  • Thursday, April 17: Free, handmade waffle cones all day.
  • Friday, April 18: All pre-packed pints are $5.

Closings 

Cafe Gratitude (333 Southwest Blvd., cafegratitudekc.com

The Crossroads beloved vegan restaurant announced its closing on social media after 13 years in business. Cafe Gratitude’s last day in business will be Sunday, April 27. To read more click here.

UnKCorked Wine & Spirits (11140 Switzer Rd. OP, KS, unkcorked.com)

Following the closing of Big Mood Natural Wines, another wine bar UnKCorked in Overland Park announced its closing on social media last Saturday. UnKCorked was open for almost three and a half years. 

“It looks like it’s our turn,” the Instagram post stated. “We have about a week before we have to vacate the space so drop by and say hey one last time.”

Westport Coffeehouse (4010 Pennsylvania Ave., westportcoffeehouse.com)

Westport Coffeehouse closed March 28 with plans for another coffee shop to move in.

“We’ve been trying to retire and sell our property for a few years now,” owner Pan Ptacek told The Star. “And recently we had somebody approach us with the idea to do another coffee house in the space. We thought, ‘You open yours, we’ll close ours — the neighborhood won’t miss a thing.’”
