Here are twelve things to do in KC this weekend, June 27-30, including: Slow Joy, Country Stampede and The Flavors of Central Tour.

Mini Golf At The Museum

It’s back! A summer highlight, Art Course offers an artist-designed mini-golf adventure within the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Every Friday through Sunday, you can play nine unique holes, each offering a creative spin on a masterpiece from the museum’s collection.

May 16–August 25. Regular museum hours Thursday–Monday. Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum.

Disney100: The Exhibition

Featuring over 250 artifacts, props, and costumes, Disney100: The Exhibition gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Disney’s most popular characters, films and shows. KC is one of the first three cities to host the North American tour of this special, historic exhibit.

May 24–November 30. Bank of America Gallery at Union Station.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: A Grr-ific Exhibit

Based on the popular children’s TV show, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood exhibit touches on the show’s central themes, like community and emotions, and brings life to the world of Daniel Tiger and his friends. In the exhibit, children can play, sing, explore and make-believe in their favorite, familiar places from the Neighborhood.

The Heart Of America Shakespeare Festival

Neighbors of Southmoreland Park, next to the Nelson and KC Art Institute, will tell you they know it’s summer when they see the outdoor theater scaffolding go up in the park. This year, the festival will present Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. The summer Shakespeare performances actually start June 11, but run weekends through the end of June. 

June 11–30. Weekends. Gates open 6 pm, show at 8 pm. Southmoreland Park.

Coffee Club At Central Park

Families can enjoy the fresh air in Central Park and take a break to caffeinate while the kids play at the playground and splash fountain, along with the provided activities every Thursday morning during summer. Pop-ups and activities change weekly and this week, there’s a special activity by Lemon Lime Family Time and crafting with Macaroni Kid.

June 27. 9-11 am. Central Park (Zona Rosa).

Slow Joy

Chicano music act Slow Joy hits North KC, playing his new single “King Cowboy,” which looks at the consequences of existing in a capitalist society as well as other favorites from newly released EP Mi Amigo Slow Joy, In the EP, Slow Joy combines elements of grunge and emo with gritty guitar riffs to contrast his deeply personal and melancholic lyrics.

Country Stampede 

This annual 3-day outdoor music and camping festival is one of the largest music festivals in the Midwest. Country Stampede brings together the biggest names in country music, this year Chris Janson, Riley Green, John Pardi and more will be performing. There will also be vendors and camping for the complete music festival experience.  

June 27–29. Times vary. Azura Amphitheater.

Friday Summer Concerts In Central Park 

Enjoy live music with the free summer concerts in Central Park at Zona Rosa every Friday in June and July (minus Fourth of July weekend). Guests are encouraged to arrive early to dine and unwind at a nearby restaurant or to grab a patio spot at Bravo Italian Kitchen for a great spot overlooking the stage. Come early and bring a lawn chair or blanket to snag the perfect spot to enjoy live music. This week, The Outtakes will be performing.

Kansas City Current

Although Kansas City’s professional women’s soccer season has been underway for some time, this KC Current home soccer game against the Houston Dash is a great game to attend. It’s Women’s Cancer Awareness Night, presented by the University of Kansas Health System.

Theater In The Park

The city of Gladstone will once again be hosting free summer theater performances at Oak Grove Park’s outdoor amphitheater. The first of two musicals is Fiddler on the Roof, which runs throughout the weekend. Bring a lawn chair and get ready to set up shop on the gentle sloping hill. The following weekend, Something Rotten will be performed.

June 28–30. 8:30 pm. Oak Grove Park Amphitheater.

The Flavors of Central Tour

Enjoy the flavor, culture and diversity that is on Central Avenue in KCK with The Flavors of Central Tour. More than 40 authentic Latino restaurants exist along the Central Area corridor, and the tour invites all to try various traditional dishes, drinks and desserts these businesses have to offer. There will be volunteers along the way to help guide participants and help answer any questions, but the tour is meant to be fun and self-guided. The day of food fun will end at La Placita Market, which will have live music and additional activities.

June 29. Registration begins at 9:30 am at Bethany Park. Central Area corridor.

Art Garden KC 

Free family and pet-friendly Art Garden KC Sundays are back for the summer season. In Berkley Riverfront for the second year, there’s a Healing Garden & Game Garden along with the local vendor market, which includes over 70 local artists and makers, as well as live music, food trucks, yoga classes, yard games and kids’ activities.

June 30. 11 am- 4pm. Berkley Riverfront.
