Orchid Symposium at Powell Gardens
Powell Gardens is opening its new season with a brand new exhibition, Orchid Delirium, which draws inspiration from the Victorian-era flower frenzy. The exhibit opened on March 9 and will remain open until March 27. It showcases select blooms from Powell Gardens’ 600-piece orchid collection. One of the many events of this exhibition is Experience Delirium, a one-night rave with neon lights and jungle-themed decor.

Skyline in Spring Rooftop Pop-Up Bar
Spring is near, and Three Points Bar in downtown KC is hosting a spring-themed pop-up bar this Friday and Saturday on their rooftop. There will be spring-themed cocktails, a DJ and great views of the city. Normally, this venue is reserved for private parties and events, but this weekend it’ll be open to the public as a pop-up experience.

Ballroom Dancing at Belvoir
John Pileggi is leading ballroom dance classes on Sundays at Belvoir Winery in Liberty. Each session is two hours and the first lesson is free. You can sip and dance your Sundays away for the foreseeable future.

The Royale
Jack Johnson was the first Black heavyweight champ, an American icon of the early twentieth century. KCRep is staging The Royale, a new work by playwright Marco Ramirez (Orange is the New Black, Daredevil) that shows the human cost of making history.

The Thoma Collection
The newest exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins Museum is a show featuring fifteen works of artists who worked under Spanish colonial rule in Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru in the 1600s and 1700s. The show, which runs through September 4, has works pulled from the holdings of Chicago’s Thoma Foundation, which has an emphasis on work from the Spanish Americas.

Q39’s Q for Cancer
Q39 pitmaster Rob Magee was one of the city’s best-known barbecue personalities. Magee lost his battle with cancer in January. On Sunday, they’re throwing a benefit barbecue as the culmination of Q39’s month-long efforts for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. All proceeds from the ticketed event ($15-25, available here) will be donated to support Colorectal Cancer Research at the KU Cancer Center through the Rob Magee Memorial Fund. The event will have a buffet-style BBQ featuring brisket, pulled pork sliders, signature sides and sauces. There will be live entertainment from 80’s tribute band, the M80’s, as well as beer from Martin City Brewing Company.
