Belle, a black and white terrier/pit bull mix, was just two-years-old when she first came to KC Pet Project a year ago.
Picked up as a stray, she was shy. She also was pregnant.
Belle was monitored for a month, then went to a foster home to deliver her eight pups (foster parents rated her an excellent mama).
The pups all went to new forever homes and Belle moved to a Foster-to-Adopt home where she was adopted in late January.
But now she’s back.
Staff said her adopted family loved her very much but had a lifestyle change that did not allow them to keep her.
Her “kind eyes and sweet personality” had the staff naming her Belle after the leading lady in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” She knows commands such as sit, stay, and outside/potty. She’s working on paw/shake and “leave it.”
She is very scared living in the shelter but the 40-pound Belle is said to be the sweetest girl once you get to know her.
She got along with the 7-year-old and a 2.5-year-old in her previous home, and likes to gather with other “gentle and dainty” dogs in the shelter’s playgroups. But she needs time and patience to grow her confidence, and a home where she has company much of the time.
“She would love to be your companion, no matter the errand,” said Abigail Wallner of KC Pet Project. “Belle has had quite the whirlwind of a year and is ready to settle down into her perfect home.”
She has been vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. In light of her “annus horribilis,” the shelter is waiving her adoption fee. Belle is currently at the 7077 Elmwood Ave. location. For more on Belle, visit KCpetproject.
