Blackhole Bakery, known for its mochi donuts and other delightful pastries, gained a loyal following quickly after opening in April of 2020. The bakery’s ability to remain open through the pandemic is certainly a testament to owner Jason Provo’s delicious baked goods.

Five years later and the bakery is ready for an expansion. According to Startland News, Blackhole Bakery will open a second location in the West Plaza antique district (1702 W. 45th St., KCMO). The opening is slated for later this year.

“I’m calling it a bodega. I want it to have that corner store feel,” Provo told Startland. “I’m really trying to gear this to the neighborhood. Come in for breakfast and a cup of coffee, then maybe pick up a quart of soup and bread for dinner.”

The second bakery will offer its usual assortment of pastries and bagels and feature a coffee bar, but will also have sandwiches and maybe some desserts. Provo hopes to partner with local chefs to create grab-and-go meals.

While Blackhole Bakery’s current location on Troost (5531 Troost Ave., KCMO) does not have dine-in seating, its the new space will.
