Barbecue isn’t the only food genre KC excels in. Within the last decade, KCK’s authentic taco scene has gained national notoriety, even by the likes of Forbes.
Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, Visit KCK has relaunched the Taco Trail, a guide to more than fifty-five taquerias in Kansas City, Kansas.
The trail acts as a guide for locals and tourists to experience KCK’s Mexican culture and history by devouring the area’s best tacos. Among the near sixty taquerias are gems like GG’s Barbacoa Café, El Pollo Guasave, Carniceria Y Tortilleria San Antonio and more.

Husband and wife duo Gabriel and Lourdes Gonzalez are from Tabasco, Mexico and the owners of GG’s Barbacoa Café. Their Southern Mexico roots are seen throughout their menu with their choice of seasonings. The quezabirria tacos with consumé have been a crowd favorite since they opened in 2017, although “our homemade lemonade with strawberry is also a popular item,” Gabriel Gonzales says.
With the relaunch of the trail, participants have the opportunity to win prizes by checking in at the designated taqueria. According to Visit KCK, “the KCK Taco Trail is ongoing, however participants have until April 15, 2024 to complete the trail and win prizes.”
