Holy Brunch food truck has permanent home now

During the pandemic, Drue and Kat Stewart decided there was a void in food truck options – brunch.

So they rolled out Holy Brunch KC, setting the truck up in spots from Lee’s Summit to Olathe.

“It just blew up from there,” Drue Stewart says. “Everything is really different and funky. Not like your normal breakfast. And our portions have always been huge.”

Now they have a brick-and-mortar restaurant.

The bright magenta and black Holy Brunch KC opened earlier this month at 204 Westport Road.

Mario’s deli – known for its grinders – had a long run in the spot, followed by a couple of other tenants.

Holy Brunch KC specializes in made-from-scratch waffles topped with such ingredients as Cinnamon Toast Crunch, fresh strawberries, Oreos, banana cream, Fruity Pebbles and powdered sugar.

It also has waffle sliders with hash browns and a choice of meat (fried chicken, smoked sausage Philly cheesesteak or bacon).

Its Taste of Holy Brunch Sampler has eight wings, four tenders, fries and the dessert of the day – currently strawberry shortcake doughnut.

Customers can also order such combos as four wings and fries, or three tenders and a waffle.

Other menu items include pepperoni pizza, Buffalo chicken tacos, breakfast burgers (with cheese and over medium eggs), French toast, meatball grinders, Philly cheesesteaks and breakfast Philly cheesesteaks, and biscuits and gravy, along with breakfast burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and sandwiches.

So far the most popular items are wings and waffles, and the Monster breakfast burrito.

But the owners say that’s only about one-fourth of the menu that they will eventually debut.

They also will have a build-your-own brunch stand with regular menu items and some surprises.

Hours are 11 am to midnight, Tuesdays through Sundays. It is closed Mondays.

Holy Brunch KC also caters weddings, corporate events and other gatherings.

As for the name, Drue Stewart says it was a spiritual choice.

“I had a dark past and got saved,” he says.
