A new non-scripted television show produced by Amy Poehler will film its first season in Kansas City, which producers told KCTV was their first choice of location.
Amy Poehler is best known for her time on SNL and Parks & Rec and will produce the show according to Mayor Quinton Lucas, who announced the project by Scout Productions, who produced Queer Eye. The show is called The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning and is based on Author Margareta Magnusson’s book of the same name, this summer.
The show will feature people who are “at a major crossroads” and in desperate need to get their homes and lives in order. A Swedish “death cleaner” will be brought into a new home each episode to work on decluttering decades of collected keepsakes. The process allows a person to reflect on their life and the direction in which it is headed, making it possible to be ready for death while enjoying life as it is now.
David Collins and Michael Williams of Scout Productions told KCMOV4 that Kansas City was their first choice for filming. “It was our first choice because we had such a great time on our last production,” they told KCMOV4. “The support we received from the Kansas City Film Office and the city and its citizens was beyond amazing and makes it the perfect location for a first season show. Not to mention the barbecue!”
Though the release date is unconfirmed, the show will debut on Peacock and NBC Universal.
Mayor Lucas is ecstatic to see the show unfold in Kansas City, saying the city is “on a roll.”
“We look forward to seeing our City featured again internationally as the new series, The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, explores the beauty and complexities of major life transitions through the eyes of Kansas Citians,” Mayor Lucas said in a press release.
