Just a couple of years after opening in downtown Overland Park, Hummus & Pita has expanded.
Owner Dhiaa Eid recently celebrated his new dining edition, inviting regulars, neighboring business owners, friends and family to check out the enlarged space and try some new food.
“It [the party] turned out really good, everyone loves it, they love the new spot,” Eid says.
Hummus and Pita opened in late July 2022 at 8039 Santa Fe Drive. (It took the former The Snack Shack space. It relocated to Mission).
Eid liked the location next to Thompson Park. He spent four months remodeling it with an open kitchen that allows him to chat more easily with customers.
Its namesake hummus is the most popular order, along with chicken shawarma.
The Middle Eastern menu also includes beef shawarma, lamb kabobs, gyros, wraps, falafel, tabbouleh, fattoush, Greek salad, dolmas, halloumi sticks (halloumi cheese that is breaded and deep fried, then topped with pomegranate molasses), frishawarma (crispy french fries with chicken shawarma and topped with garlic, nacho cheese and pomegranate molasses), and baklava. Entrees come with rice and salad.
Eid was born in Jordan but his mother is Syrian. The family operated a restaurant in Palestine for years, closing it during the pandemic. He moved to Kansas City a decade ago and has worked in other Mediterranean restaurants in the metro.
His Overland Park restaurant only had about 25 seats. The expansion, into a former barber shop, along with more outdoor seating under a new gazebo, increases that to about 90.
Hours: 11 am to 8 pm, Mondays through Thursday; 11 am to 1 pm and 3 to 9 pm, Fridays; 11 am to 9 pm, Saturdays; and noon to 7 pm, Sundays.
