Char Bar isn’t just opening another restaurant in downtown Olathe. It’s also opening a pickleball complex.
The Southern-style barbecue joint is renovating a former firehouse and turning it into an over 26,000 square-foot entertainment destination. In addition to a restaurant, the Olathe site will feature seven pickleball courts, a space for outdoor games, an outdoor patio and lounge and a two-story fire pit.
Char Bar’s Olathe restaurant is the first Kansas location, with two others in Westport and Parkville.
Einstein Bros (1838 W Foxwood Dr, Raymore, MO, einsteinbros.com)
Einstein Bros has opened its newest bakery in Raymore and is offering a deal for its customers there.
For the next two weeks, customers of Raymore’s Einstein Bros can take advantage of a BOGO free egg sandwich when they order in person, online or on the Einstein app with the code: BOGO.
Closings
Marco Polo Selections (336 W. 75th St., KCMO, marcopoloselections.com)
After four years, Marco Polo Selections is closing its Waldo store.
The wine shop made the announcement July 29 on Instagram.
No official close date was announced, however an August 1 post announced that it was officially sold out of all its wine and encouraged customers to visit the Olathe location (106 S. Cherry St., Olathe, KS).

Get Your Kicks On 816
Celebrate all things Kansas City on 816 Day, or, Saturday, August 16. The Rieger is hosting one of 816 Day’s biggest celebrations filled with special menus, live music, vendor markets and more. The event takes place from 10 am to 6 pm at 2700 Guinotte Ave., KCMO.
The event includes a morning run club with El Cafe Cubano serving coffee and pastries, live music in Electric Park, $8.16 drink specials, a makers market curated by Cherry Pit Collective, a Kids’ Corner featuring story time from The Rabbit Hole, interactive slime by Rainbow Slime Co. and a special visit from the Kansas City Zoo. Plus, CityDog will be on-site helping your dog with DIY pup crafts.
