The Sundance Film festival is coming to Kansas.
Mama.film of Wichita, Kansas is partnering with Sundance Satellite Screen for the second year to bring their array of independent films to Lawrence, Kansas next year. The festival will be held on the final weekend of the Sundance festival at Liberty Hall, located on Massachusetts St. in downtown Lawrence. It will run from Friday, January 28 to Sunday, January 30 and will show a specially curated selection of the Sundance films.
Liberty Hall is one of only seven independently owned theaters to be selected nationwide. The Sundance Festival is the country’s most prestigious film festival, and happens in the mountains outside Salt Lake City.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Sundance Institute again to bring festival selections to Kansas,” said Lela Meadow-Conner, founder and CEO of mama.film. “In 2021 we had the opportunity to bring Sundance Film Festival Films to Wichita and in 2022, we’re road tripping to Lawrence to screen films at the historic Liberty Hall, and we look forward to celebrating independent film with this community.”
Mama.film also plans to use the festival to bring together the film communities of Kansas and the Kansas City area for a convening of education and networking over Sundance’s closing weekend.
Anyone interested in participating in the Sundance Film Festival in-person is required to be fully vaccinated and wear a mask inside every venue. Tickets and film information will be available through the Liberty Hall box office later this year.
