Amid 35 dark storefronts, there’s a new bright spot on the Country Club Plaza.
Swarovski jewelry company has opened a new concept store at 230 Nichols Road. The Wonderlux concept is more immersive, with floor-to-ceiling blue fixtures, along with a few more exclusive pieces than a typical Swarovski store, according to a company spokeswoman.
Back in 1895, Daniel Swarovski used an electric crystal cutting machine to found the company in Austria. He had a vision to create “a diamond for everyone.”
Swarovski crystals are still cut in Austria and pieces include necklaces; infinity bracelets, bangles and cuffs; and stud, hoop and drop earrings.
The Plaza spot previously housed Archive clothing and Himiway electric bike shop.
The shopping district also recently lost Forever 21, Hallmark, Moosejaw, The North Face, Soft Surroundings and Sweet Kiss Brigadeiro (although its treats are sold in the Made in KC Marketplace on the Plaza).
Kindred, a locally owned boutique, has paused its operations but hopes to reopen at its original location on Nichols Road.
