The Crossroads’ Tannin Wine Bar has long boasted a menu full of worldly wines and dishes. Their new sister business Mineral Lounge, however, is focusing on the sunny Mediterranean.
Expected to open by the end of the month, Mineral Lounge is located just a few blocks from Tannin on 17th and Broadway, directly across the corner from the Kauffman Center and new Loews Hotel (1700 Broadway). The site was an event space owned by KC Cork Dorks, who would collaborate with Tannin for their event menus.
Despite having both a drink and food menu, Mineral Lounge will be “more lounge than restaurant,” according to Tannin General Manager Barry Tunnell. The lounge is small, only about 1,000 to 1,200 square-feet. In the entire space, there are only six bar seats and ten tables.
“It’s a very comfortable, relaxed lounge with a mix of bar tables and lounge furniture,” says Tunnell. “It’s meant for people to relax, socialize and see friends and colleagues.”
Tannin’s core staff – Tunnell, Chef Brian Aaron and Bar Manager Brooke Silvey – are bringing their talents to the new establishment and overseeing Mineral Lounge’s operation. The wine program will offer 20 dry wines by the glass along with some sherry and fortified options.
“The inspiration is a couple legendary wineries that sit on opposite sides of the Mediterranean,” says Tunnell. “Domaine Tempier in Provence makes some of the most inspiring wines in southern France along with Chateau Musar in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. Their wines are full of character, life and expression. We’re excited to introduce them to our customers.”
Along with wines, cocktails, beer and nonalcoholic options will be available. The food menu will consist of ten Mediterranean-inspired small plates like Spanish tinned fish, duck confit rillettes, saffron couscous salad, yellowtail crudo, a prosciutto and mozzarella focaccia sandwich, and a smoked salmon croissant.
