Restaurant group W. VinZant has added another establishment to its roster.
In a deal that closed on Dec. 9, the fast growing-group bought Waldo Pizza, a longstanding pizza shop that sits along the shops at 75th and Broadway St. In June, W. VinZant also took over ownership of the Plaza’s beloved Chinese restaurant Bo Lings and earlier this year, the Lawrence-based gastropub Merchants Pub & Plate too.
“We’re ecstatic to be the next steward of such a beloved restaurant and will carefully honor its traditions in the future,” said Whitney VinZant, the founder of the KC-based restaurant group.
For the past four years, Steven Kingery has owned Waldo Pizza (7433 Broadway St.). He started working at Waldo Pizza in high school as a dishwasher, working his way up until he eventually bought the business in 2020.
While W. VinZant wants to “honor [Waldo Pizza’s] traditions,” customers can also expect a few changes.
Along with “keeping the things you know and love,” Waldo Pizza will also introduce new menu items, Kingery said in the release. The pizza joint will also add Mondays to its hours of operation.
W. VinZant Restaurant Group now owns 11 restaurant brands, including Louie’s Wine Dive, Va Bene and Gram & Dun.
