Original Summit Grill closes for renovation

A dozen years ago, Andy Lock and Domhnall Molloy took over a former Lee’s Summit steakhouse and converted it to Summit Grill.

It was so successful, they have since opened multiple restaurants under different brands across the metro.

Now the partners are temporarily closing their original location, at 4835 N.E. Lakewood Way for a “much-anticipated facelift and construction.” It will reopen at 3 p.m. on Sept. 6.

They said they are thrilled to bring a fresh new look to their flagship restaurant where it all began.

“It will be a war zone for 12 days – all new tile, all new paint, all new lighting,” says Amber Carlson, president of operations for parent-company Summit Grill Group. “We had invested in new furniture late last year. It is getting the rest of the building on par with what we already started to do.”

The menu includes Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, corned beef brisket Reubens, lobster-stuffed salmon, slow-roasted pot roast, specialty burgers and blackened mahi mahi tacos.

Lock and Molloy had worked together at McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks restaurant, moving up the ranks together before leaving to partner on Summit Grill.

Now they own Summit Grill in Waldo and Gladstone; as well as Boru Asian Eatery and South of Summit Taqueria & Tequila in Waldo; Third Street Social in downtown Lee’s Summit, the Northland and south of the Country Club Plaza; and Pearl Tavern in Lee’s Summit.
