Quirky cafe You Say Tomato Is back in business

After closing in 2023, Anne Clark decided to run a catering service out of her Midtown restaurant You Say Tomato. At the time the decision to shift gears was a better way to use her limited resources due to staffing concerns and not knowing how long she would be able to stay in the location.

Now that the building’s new owner has guaranteed You Say Tomato can remain in business, after almost two years, Clark’s quirky eatery is opening to the public once again. You Say Tomato (2801 Holmes St.) will open June 4, serving breakfast and lunch, Wednesday through Saturday, from 8 am to 2 pm.

To start, Clark says she plans to bring back many customer favorites, like cinnamon and pecan rolls for Saturday brunch. Although the initial menu will be small, Clark hopes to expand as she gets back into the groove.

“There will be a few solid standards on the menu and other standards that will rotate. We’ll have to develop a groove for pastries and sweets,” says Clark. “However, if we notice the need or interest, we’ll adjust accordingly. Of course, we will always take special requests and some mornings may benefit from catering spillover.”

Clark says spending the past couple years focused on catering has expanded her culinary repertoire and she’s excited to eventually add new menu items.

“These past five years of catering and personal chef-ing has expanded what we can do substantially,” she says.

As for other changes, the dining room has been rearranged and Clark is particularly excited with the restaurant’s upgraded heating and cooling system.
